2016-2017 Goals

Every other year, UC Merced students take the National Collegiate Health Assessment (NCHA). H.E.R.O.E.S. compare our campus NCHA data with the national Healthy Campus 2020 targets to identify biannual goals. Our current goals include:

  1. Increase the proportion of students who report eating five or more servings of fruit and vegetables per day, from 4.4 percent* to 6.6 percent**.
  2. Increase the proportion of students who report meeting current federal guidelines for aerobic physical activity, from 39.9 percent to 53.5 percent.
  3. Increase the proportion of sexually active students who report using condoms, most of the time or always for vaginal (and anal) intercourse in the last 30 days, from 24.6 percent (17.9 percent) to 56.1 percent (30.1 percent).
  4. Increase the proportion of students who report having ever been tested for HIV, from 21.9 percent to 28.3 percent.
  5. Reduce the proportion of students who report that their academic performance was adversely affected by sleep difficulties in the last 12 months, from 24.4 percent to 18 percent.
  6. Reduce the proportion of students who report that their academic performance was adversely affected by stress in the past 12 months, from 36.8 percent to 24.7 percent.
  7. Reduce the proportion of students who report engaging in high-risk drinking of alcoholic beverages within the last week, from 32 percent to 31.6 percent.
